De Beers Chairman’s Helicopter Put to Good Use

Diamonds have been good to many people. Lots of money is out there for those who are involved in the diamond trade. While miners and laborers don’t seem to get a big cut, the people who own the mines can make millions, if not billions of dollars, as polished diamond prices continue to rise. The profit margin on these mines can be great as there is no telling how many diamonds can be found in a single mine. The DeBeers Corporation owns mines in many countries and also involves itself in diamond trading and the retail side, where much money can be made. They are the dominant force and continue to drive the pricing structure of the diamond industry. They can control the flow of diamonds as well as the prices and are one of the key players in the jewelry industry as well. They have been around for many decades and continue to find, polish, cut and sell some of the world’s finest diamonds and provide a lot of diamonds for industrial use as well. They are well-rounded if nothing else and can and do contribute to the nations that they work in on many fronts.

Nicky Oppenheimer is the chairman of De Beers Diamonds and loves his helicopter. He uses it to move around and transport himself all over the place. The helicopter is now in use in South Africa as a way to transport the sick and ailing to hospitals when other forms of transportation will not be effective. He has been taking from the country, so it makes sense that he would give back in the form of this caring act. Originally, the idea came from a strange circumstance where a woman was transported to a hospital using Nicky’s AgustaWestland 139 helicopter. He was so excited by this that he and a doctor came up with the idea of using his helicopter as a transport vehicle for those in trouble. Nicky has wanted to make a contribution to the people of South Africa, so he now allows the use of the helicopter for Netcare 911. You can reach them over the phone or through the Internet. While the AgustaWestland 139 helicopter is used for transport, it is not for first responders as it takes a bit of time to get the helicopter ready. They use small, more agile helicopters for first response, but the AgustaWestland 139 helicopter is perfect for stable patients that need to be transferred to spots that are not as accessible by other forms of transportation.

It is great to see someone who adores a country position himself to help the people who have meant so much to him and his company for so many years. It is people like Nicky Oppenheimer who understand the word community and know that giving often feels better than receiving and that his people are a gift that should be appreciated as they do all of the hard work out there in the mines and can always use a helping hand.
